Facing the facts on teen sexuality

Saturday June 29, 2013

To the editor of THE EAGLE:

Concerning Tricia Farley-Bouvier’s June 25 op-ed column "Teen pregnancy is a community issue," I also commend Berkshire United Way and CEO Kristine Hazzard for their Face the Facts campaign.

At the high school level, "raging hormones" are the two key words. That’s nothing new -- always was, always will be.

Remember Nancy Reagan’s admonition to "Just say no" to drugs? Did it work? If we can sweep our puritanical ways under the rug and "face the facts" then we can focus on biological urges. Free condoms, probably from the nurse’s office, and no questions. Maybe we can cut down on teen births and sexually related diseases.
