Fear for fate of English language
Kudos to Joan Wickersham for her March 4 op-ed page column pleading for the teaching of the rules of grammar to in our grade schools. I might also add a plea to teach cursive handwriting, the lack of which is regrettable.
For that matter I have wondered from time to time what is being taught in schools of journalism, because of the number of grammatical and rhetorical blunders I see in The Berkshire Eagle, especially by Associated Press writers. Is not the editor supposed to correct these mistakes? Pete Miller would have. I fear for the fate of the English language.
