Fire destroys home on Route 23 in Great Barrington
GREAT BARRINGTON - A single-story home at 409 Monterey Road was destroyed on Tuesday by a fire of undetermined origin, according to Great Barrington fire officials.
No injuries were reported in the blaze, which was reported at 9:53, according to Fire Chief Charles Burger.
The house, located just east of Eagleton School at the intersection of Monterey Road and Old Monterey Road, was fully involved when firefighters arrived.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the chief said.
Burger said the blaze was "challenging" because of a number of partitions in the basement.
The owner of the house was in his garage at the time of the fire, Burger said.
In addition to Great Barrington, units from Lenox, Sheffield, Egremont and Richmond also responded to the scene.
Burger said the building appeared to be a total loss. He estimated the damage at about $250,000.
Units cleared the scene about 12:45, the chief said.
