Flash flood warning issued for Berkshire County

PITTSFIELD - The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for central Berkshire County that expires at 6:30 p.m.

The area affected by the flash flood warning includes the town of Great Barrington and the city of Pittsfield. It also includes the towns of Hancock, Cheshire, and New Lebanon, N.Y.

At 2:25 p.m., National Weather Service doppler radar indicated heavy rain from the thunderstorm over the warned area. This rain combined with wet soils from previous rains will lead to flash flooding of urban areas, streets, and small streams.

The thunderstorm is capable of producing half inch hail, winds around 50 miles per hour, frequent lightning and heavy rain.
