Florida town election features two-way race for School Committee

By Scott Stafford, Berkshire Eagle Staff

FLORIDA -- A two-way race for a single seat on the School Committee is the only contest in this year’s annual town elections.

Darin Lane and Sara Russell-Scholl are running for the seat on the School Committee.

Lane works at the Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Skating Rink and operates Best Friends Boarding, a pet boarding business in Florida.

Russell-Scholl is an administrative assistant at the Manice Education Center, an 18-acre science and environmental education center for student from New York City schools.

Russell-Scholl said she has been a member of the Abbot Memorial School PTA fro two years, and has lived in Florida since 2007.

She decided to run for School Committee after other members of the committee suggested she do so.

The seat is open because current committee member Judy Embry has resigned, and is serving until the end of the term.

Polls will be opened from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Florida Town Hall.

The Annual Town Meeting has not yet been set, although officials expect it to be scheduled for mid June.
