Former Pittsfield City Council candidate warns of telephone scam

PITTSFIELD -- A former City Council candidate has reported to police that someone may be fraudulently using his name as part of a telephone scam.

Richard Latura, who unsuccessfully ran for the Ward 3 council seat in 2013, called police on behalf of an elderly woman who contacted him after receiving a call soliciting donations, according to Pittsfield Police Capt. John Mullin.

Latura told The Eagle he was contacted by a city resident who said someone had asked her for a campaign donation in support of him.

"I am not soliciting any money," he said, adding that he hopes to warn anyone else who might receive a call.
