Four local golfers in the hunt for state titles

Posted
Four Berkshire County golfers will be spreading out across Massachusetts this week as they vie for MIAA state golf titles.

Western Massachusetts Division II champion Nate Dos Santos of Wahconah, Division III champion Thomas Fraser of Lee, along with Greylock's Ben Gilooly (D-II) and Taconic's Mike Kays (D-I) will all be in their respective fields.

The Division I state championship will be held on Monday at the Haverhill Country Club. The shotgun start has been delayed two hours. Now the tournament is scheduled to start at 11 a.m., with the driving range opening up at 9. It is possible, however, that Sunday's rain could cause additional changes in the schedule.

The Division II championship is scheduled for Monday at the Highlands Golf and Country Club in Grafton. The shotgun start is set for 9:30 a.m.

Division III is in Berkshire County, as pro Tom Sullivan and Wyantenuck Country Club in Great Barrington is the host. The tournament had been scheduled for Monday, but was moved to Tuesday with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.

Kays will tee off from the second hole at Haverhill. Fraser will play with North champion Nick Hanpoian of Austin Prep, South champions Justin Turbeville of Sturgis West and Brady Tsourides of Dover-Sherborn. Division III South is split into South Shore and Cape and the Islands divisions.

The Division II tee assignments were not on the MIAA site at press time.
