Franklin County register of deeds cleans out office, takes vacation

GREENFIELD (AP) -- The Franklin County Register of Deeds says he's taking a vacation to "decompress" after losing his re-election bid and did not clean out his office as his staff had said.

Joseph Gochinski tells The Recorder of Greenfield he merely took home some personal items and cleaned his desk in anticipation of a possible move of the office in November.

The 45-year-old Democrat had not been seen at work since last Thursday's primary election that he lost to challenger Scott Cote. When coworkers came to work Monday, they found Gochinski's office spotless as if he had left.

He notified the Secretary of State's office Tuesday that he was taking vacation.

He says he wasn't upset at his election loss, but was disappointed with the turnout.

Meanwhile, it's business as usual the registry.
