Friday's colleges: Williams hockey wins big

WILLIAMSTOWN -- In the first game as a nationally ranked team this year, the Williams College men's hockey team was pushed by visiting Skidmore for two periods. But the 13th-ranked Ephs erupted in the third period and skated away with a 6-2 win over Skidmore on Friday night at Lansing Chapman Rink.

Skidmore (7-7-2) got a shorthanded goal from Vlad Gavrik in the first period and Taylor Carmola tied the game for Williams (8-2-1) in the second.

The Ephs took command by scoring twice in a 38-second span of the third period. Cody Skinner scored at 7:09 and Nick Anderson netted the game winner at 7:47.

Williams dominated play, outshooting Skidmore 51-20. Sean Dougherty had 18 saves for Williams.

Williams women 68, Wesleyan 50

WILLIAMSTOWN -- In the nightcap of a NESCAC basketball doubleheader, Grace Rehnquist came off the bench to score a game-high 15 points as Williams (11-2, 2-1 NESCAC) pulled away from its Little Three rival.

While the Ephs led wire-to-wire, it was 11-8 with 14:24 left in the first half. Rehnquist drained a 3-point shot to start a 21-1 run that the Cardinals (8-5, 1-2) could not recover from.

Hamilton 3, Williams women 1

WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Hamilton defense did an outstanding job clamping down on the Williams offense as the Ephs (6-5, 3-2) had only one shot on goal in the first period and 10 in the game.

Hamilton (8-3, 3-2) broke a 1-1 tie on Jill Tokarczyk's unassisted goal at 18:55 of the second period. Williams' Cristina Bravi tied the game on a power-play goal at the 47-second mark of the second.

Chloe Billadeau had 19 saves for Williams.
