Friday's soccer: Shutout win for Millionaire boys

Saturday September 15, 2012

LENOX -- The Lenox boys lost their season opener to Mount Greylock. Since then, it’s been pretty smooth sailing.

Take Friday night’s game with Hoosac Valley, for example. The Hurricanes used a pack-it-in defense and trailed 1-0 at halftime. But the Millionaires solved it and scored four times in the second half en route to a 5-0 win.

"At halftime, we just talked abouit attacking the flank and that gave us more room in the middle of the field," Lenox coach Scott Chadwick said.

Abdul Al Henaidi got credit for the game winner, scoring in the 24th minute. Seamus Ryan had a goal and an assist while Alex Bennett assisted on Al Henaidi’s and Ryan’s goals.

Trevor Hathaway notched the shutout.

DALTON -- Once Wahconah showed coach John Kovacs more consistency in the second half, the goals came quickly.

The Warriors scored three times in a 9-minute span of the second half, turning a 2-1 game into a blowout. Jeff Pullano scored twice and had an assist for the victors, opening the scoring on his own corner kick 9 minutes into the game.

"When we were able to cross the ball in, getting it down to the corners and crossing it in got us some of the goals," Kovacs said. "It was a matter of trying to get in our rhythm, and that took a while."

Ryan Park scored twice for Wahconah, with Connor Meehan scoring both Drury goals. Wahconah outshot Drury 23-8.
