Friday's swimming: Coty helps Pittsfield boys beat Taconic Hills
PITTSFIELD -- Aaron Coty won two individual events and swam legs of two victorious relays as the Pittsfield High School boys beat Taconic Hills 69-25 on Friday night.
Coty prevailed in the 50 freestyle (25.44 seconds) and the 100 backstroke (1:10.81), while helping the Generals to wins in the 200 and 400 free relays (1:46.32 and 4:06, respectively). Pittsfield's Ken Black won both the 200 free (2:10.94) and the 500 free (6:02.95).
Taconic Hills' girls held off PHS 54-39. Theresa Murphy won the 200 free (2:24.92) and 100 free (1:03.07), and swam a leg of Pittsfield's victorious 400 free relay (4:53.28) with Mollie Scott, Nicole Belknap and Hannah King. Belknap won the 100 back (1:18.03).
Taconic, Hoosac split
PITTSFIELD -- Six different Taconic boys won individual events, helping the Braves beat Hoosac Valley 121-40. The Hurricane girls turned the tables, getting individual wins from five different swimmers to beat Taconic 109-61.
George Sommerville was a two-event winner for Taconic's boys, taking the 100 breaststroke (1:19.5) and the 100 free (58.54). Other Braves winners were Jeremy Haven (200 free), Craig Spencer-Hopkins (50 free), Steven Davila (100 butterfly), Quinton Cookis (500 free) and Lucas Benjamin (100 back). Taconic also won all three relays.
Gillian Campbell of Taconic swam a Western Mass.-qualifying time of 31.19 to win the 50 free in the girls meet, but hers was the only first-place finish the Braves could muster.
Julia Whitney (100 breast, 100 fly) and Emma Whitney (100 back, 500 free) won two events each for Hoosac Valley. The Hurricanes swept the relays and got other individual wins from Jordan Vanuni (200 free), Liz Bernardy (200 individual medley) and Michaella Vecchiarelli (100 free).
New Lebanon falls at home
NEW LEBANON, N.Y. -- Katarina Lichak won the 100 back (1:19) and 200 free (2:27.3), and Tristan Southard won the 50 free (26.98), but New Lebanon/Berlin fell 52-11 to Mount Anthony.
Robert Murphy won two events for New Lebanon -- the 100 free (56.43) and the 200 IM (2:30.44).
