Gaping hole left by North Adams water main break

NORTH ADAMS -- City workers spent several hours repairing a major water main break on Sunday that had left a gaping hole in the dowtown area.

Shortly after 5 .a.m., North Adams police received a call of water gushing through the pavement at the intersection of Rand and Reed streets. Police said the pipe was repaired by late afternoon. City public works officials were unavailable for further details regarding the break, including what caused the rupture.
