Golf notebook: Junior series starts July 8

Sunday June 23, 2013

This year's Berkshire County Junior Golf Series will begin on Monday, July 8 at Pittsfield's Pontoosuc Lake Country Club.

The tournaments are open to boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 18 who are members of an Allied golf club. The fee is just $10 and there are three age divisions -- 13 and under, 14-15 and 16-17.

The host club will provide a short clinic on either the rules of golf or golf etiquette prior the tournaments. Registration at the host club is between 8-8:30 a.m., with play beginning at 9.

It is important that participants sign up at their respective home clubs in advance and that the club professional call the names and ages into the host club by the Friday before the event.

All but the tournament at Waubeeka Golf Links will be played on a Monday. The event at the Williamstown course is on a Tuesday. Here is the schedule:

July 8, Pontoosuc Lake CC; July 15, Forest Park CC; July 22, Egremont CC; July 30, Waubeeka GL; Aug. 5, Worthington GC; Aug. 12, CC of Pittsfield.

If you have questions, call tournament director John Marlowe at (413) 663-7938.
