Great Barrington: Ahavath Sholom to celebrate High Holy Days

Congregation Ahavath Sholom is welcoming members, guests, visitors and friends to Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services at the Berkshire South Community Center to celebrate the Jewish New Year 5773.

Services for the High Holy Days will be led by Ahavath Sholom Spiritual Leader Barbara Cohen.

Services begin on Erev Rosh Hashanah at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16. Morning services begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 17, followed by a tashlich at the nearby Housatonic River. The community will observe a second day of Rosh Hashanah at Berkshire South beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18.

Services for Yom Kippur begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25, with the traditional chanting of Kol Nidre at sundown.

Yom Kippur services begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26. The Yizkor memorial service will take place during the morning service and the afternoon service and Neeilah will be followed by a community vegetarian potluck break fast.

Childcare will be available for the first day of Rosh Hashannah and Yom Kippur day services. The congregation welcomes people of all ages.
