Great Barrington: Ceremony to rededicate Newsboy monument

A ceremony to rededicate the landmark Newsboy statue and fountain will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at Newsboy Park, Maple Avenue (Route 23).

The Great Barrington Historical Commission and Great Barrington Historical Society are co-sponsors of the event which celebrates the recent conservation treatment that restored the physical and historical integrity of the legendary statue.

The event includes a performance by members of the Berkshire Ukulele Band, introductory remarks by Paul Ivory, chairman of the Historical Commission, and a description of the statue's components and its history by local historian Gary Leveille.

The project was funded by the citizens of Great Barrington through the Community Preservation Act and the Great Barrington Historical Society.

The event will be cancelled in the event of severely inclement weather.
