Great Barrington Days Inn has new owner, but will stay in the family
GREAT BARRINGTON -- The Barrington Hospitality Group, which owns three lodging establishments in Great Barrington, has changed the ownership structure at one of its larger properties, the Days Inn at 372 Main St.
GB Berkshire Inn LLC has sold the Days Inn to Smit & Neel LLC for $3.6 million, according to documents on file at the Southern Berkshire Registry of Deeds.
But the sale -- the largest commercial transaction in the Berkshires so far this year -- is actually an inter-family transaction between brothers Vijay and Pravinsinh Mahida. The Mahidas previously owned the Days Inn jointly, but the sale means that Pravinsinh is now the sole owner of the Days Inn, while Vijay will be the sole operator of the nearby Comfort Inn. The Barrington Hospitality Group also owns the Monument Mountain Motel.
Vijay Mahida said restructuring the ownership of the two inns will allow the Barrington Hospitality Group more opportunities for growth. He said the two brothers can grow both properties better if they run them separately.
"I think that we are still going to operate under the Barrington Hospitality Group, which is the family business," Vijay Mahida said. "The entity is changing, we're still working on strategic marketing, but this is better for the growth of the family."
With the ownership structure changed, Vijay Mahida said he is considering other opportunities in the Berkshire County market.
Pravinsinh Mahida is listed as the manager of Smit & Neel LLC, according to papers filed with the Secretary of State's office.
In GB Berkshire Inn LLC, Vijay Mahida was listed as the manager, and Pravinsinh Mahida as the secretary.
