Great Barrington: Historic organ concert to open symposium

Posted

First Congregational Church will present a historic organ concert by award-winning young organist Adam Pajan at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at the church, 251 Main St.

Pajan will play the church’s historic three-manual pipe organ built in 1883 by Hilborne L. Roosevelt of New York City. The program will include pieces by J.S. Bach, César Franck, Felix Mendelssohn, and Arthur Foote.

In honor of the bicentennial of the National Anthem, Pajan will conclude his program with 19th century American composer Dudley Buck’s Concert Variations on "The Star-Spangled Banner." The concert is free and open to the public.

Pajan’s program is the opening event of a two day symposium focused on the church’s historic organ.
