Great Barrington: Jewish patriarch is subject of talk

The Jewish Federation of the Berkshires will present "The Gomez Mill House Museum and Historic Site," with Ruth Abrahams, executive director of the Gomez Foundation, at 10:45 a.m. Friday, June 6, at Hevreh of Southern Berkshire, 270 State Road.

Abrahams will present a portrait of the patriarch of the early American Jewish dynasty -- the Gomez family of New York. Luis Moses Gomez built the first synagogue in America and expanded business opportunities into the Hudson Valley where his trading post, the oldest original Jewish dwelling in North America, still stands.

The program will be followed at noon by a fresh buffet lunch. The costs are $11 with lunch; $5 for the program alone.

Reservations: Nancy Maurice Rogers, program director, at (413) 442-4360, ext. 15.
