Great Barrington man charged with heroin possession

GREAT BARRINGTON -- A Great Barrington man is facing drug charges after police, investigating a report of a fight, allegedly found him carrying nine baggies of heroin.

Nicholas S. McCormick, 32, of Silver Street in Great Barrington, was arraigned Monday in Southern Berkshire District Court on one count of class-A drug possession.

Great Barrington Police encountered McCormick 1:30 on Saturday morning when they were responding to a report of a fight at Fiori Restaurant on Railroad Street.

According to police, they found McCormick walking away from the scene. Officer said he was heavily intoxicated and asked him to contact someone who could pick him up. When he was unable to find anyone, he was placed in protective custody, at which point police said they found the heroin in his baseball cap.
