Great Barrington man reported missing was just camping

GREAT BARRINGTON - A man whom police had been searching for since Sunday had not been kidnapped -- he was camping, according to Great Barrington police.

Paul Tawczynski, 34, was reported missing by his family on Sunday night, according to Sgt. William Bartini, who said the report triggered an "active search."

Bartini said the family had feared that Tawczynski may have been kidnapped, which was thoroughly investigated by the Great Barrington Police Department, with assistance from members of the Berkshire County Law Enforcement Task Force assigned to the Berkshire District Attorney's Office.

The search was called off early Wednesday after Tawczynski returned home.

Upon his return, Tawczynski was suffering from dehydration. He was transported to Berkshire Medical Center by the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Squad, where he was treated and released.
