Great Barrington: Panel discussion offers healthcare advice for seniors

Elder Law Attorney Paula Almgren, in conjunction with Fairview Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and Fairview Hospital, will present a free panel discussion, "Navigating the Healthcare Maze: Real solutions for real life."

The discussion will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Fairview Hospital.

Panelists will include Almgren; Cara Holcomb, admissions coordinator at Fairview Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center; Marsha Moquin, director of case management and social services at Fairview Hospital; and Cheryl Thompson, program manager, Advocacy for Access at Fairview Hospital.

The discussion will address aspects of the healthcare system, focusing on issues seniors face, including MassHealth eligibility regulations, levels of care provided from rehab and skilled nursing to long-term care and adult day health, types of hospital admissions, health care proxies, durable powers of attorney, HIPPA, veterans benefits, Medicare and other support programs.

The presentation is free to the public.
