The Jewish Federation of the Berkshires will sponsor the program, "Shalom, Salaam: Building Peace Through Music," with Todd Mack, executive director of "Music in Common." The program will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, at Hevreh of Southern Berkshire, 270 State Road.

In 2005, Mack organized a backyard jam in honor of his friend, the late Wall St. Journal reporter Danny Pearl. Fueled by a resonating belief in music as a universal language, the event, now dubbed "Music in Common" has grown into an internationally touring non-profit organization and community-building program that serves as a call to action in towns around the world.

The program will spotlight the work of Music in Common in the Middle East, where Palestinians and Israelis work together on music projects. The presentation will include slides, videos, and a live music performance of work created during the course of two recent Middle Eastern tours.

The program is $3; with noon luncheon, $6.

For information and lunch reservations, call Nancy Maurice Rogers, program director, at (413) 442-4360, ext. 15.
