Great Barrington voters OK exempting $600,000 spending on fire engine

GREAT BARRINGTON >> Voters at Monday's annual town election handily approved, 290-236, exempting a total of $600,000 to cover the cost of a new fire engine.

A total of 576 of the town's registered voters, or 12.5 percent, participated in the election, according to Town Clerk Marie T, Ryan, who termed the turnout "very light."

Michael O. Wise edged Stephan E. McAlister, 274-252, for a one-year term as moderator. He replaces longtime Moderator Edward G. McCormick.

Brandee Nelson and Jeremy Higa, earned 327 and 284 votes, respectively, to win the two slots on the Planning Board. Glenn Goble was third with 270.

Elected as library trustees were Lauren Clark and Dana Coleman. Stephen Bannon and Daniel Bailly were re-elected to the Select Board, while Thomas Blauvelt and Janet Lee were elected to the Finance Committee. Carolyn Ivory was elected to the ZBA, and Michael Lanoue was elected to the Board of Health. All were unopposed.
