Great Barrington: Watson Christmas Fund sets $26,000 goal

GREAT BARRINGTON >> The 79th annual John S. Watson Christmas Fund has increased its goal this year to $26,000.

Founded in 1936 by local newsman John S. Watson, the fund serves South Berkshire families in need with food and clothing certificates.

The certificates are mailed out in December allowing families time to redeem them before Christmas.

In 2014, the fund served 901 people, an increase of 10 percent from 2013.

Donations are now being accepted at all Berkshire Bank South County offices. Checks should be made payable to the Watson Fund.

Those wishing to make their donations "in memory of" or "in lieu of holiday cards" should include their requests with their check and those wishes will be published in the local newspapers and on WSBS radio.
