Green River swimming hole closed due to elevated E. coli levels

Friday June 14, 2013

GREAT BARRINGTON -- The Green River swimming hole on Route 23 has again been closed after water samples confirmed elevated levels of E. coli, according to the town's Health Department.

The swimming hole will stay closed until further notice. Meanwhile, the access trail to the area has been posted to ward off swimmers.

Water samples are taken weekly and additional information will be made available when it can be re-opened.

According to the town's Health Department, the elevated bacteria levels are likely due to the recent heavy rains.

Additional questions can be directed to Mark Pruhenski at the Great Barrington Health Department at (413) 528-0680.

The swimming area also was closed once earlier this spring for the same reason.
