Green River swimming hole in Great Barrington closed due to E. coli

GREAT BARRINGTON -- The Green River swimming hole on Route 23 was closed on Friday after water samples confirmed elevated levels of E. coli, according to the town's Health Department.

The swimming hole will stay closed until further notice. Meanwhile, the access trail to the area has been posted to ward off swimmers.

The water samples were taken earlier this week, and the results were confirmed on Friday. The area is regularly monitored to ensure safe swimming.

According to the town's Health Department, the elevated bacteria levels are "likely due to the recent heavy rains but we will continue to monitor and test the water and provide updates as needed."
