Greenfield couple remarried following hasty ceremony in 1956

GREENFIELD, MASS. >> A Massachusetts couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary by holding a more traditional ceremony than they had the first time around.

The Recorder reports that Lorraine Laurie wore the wedding gown of her dreams on Saturday when she renewed her vows with husband, Joe, at the Living Waters Assembly of God church in Greenfield.

The story began in 1956 when Joe Laurie was given just three days to report to his Army unit in Hawaii.

The couple held a rushed wedding without the white dress or fancy reception. Lorraine wore a light green dress instead.

After some planning by their daughter, the Lauries, who are now in their 80s, were remarried with Lorraine wearing the white lace dress she had always wanted and her husband in his dress blues.
