Greylock baseball beats Wahconah in 10

DALTON -- Ian Brink's sacrifice fly to deep center field scored Ryan Wadsworth to give the Mount Greylock baseball team a 3-2, 10-inning win at Wahconah on Monday.

Wadsworth had reached on an error in the top of the 10th and advanced to second. He then took third on a passed ball before Brink's fly ball.

Kyle Kirchner was the hard-luck loser for Wahconah (1-2, 0-2 North), going 7 1/3 innings, throwing 95 pitches and walking just one batter.

"It was a really well-pitched game," Wahconah coach Jared Shannon said. "[Kyle] only walked one guy, and it was the last guy he faced. He keeps his pitch count low; he doesn't really get behind guys."

Robby Buffis hit a two-run double in the fifth for Greylock. Wahconah got an RBI fielder's choice from Andrew Kowalczyk in the seventh, and scored another run on an error following that play.

Still, the Warriors had a runner on third six times in the game and couldn't get that runner home, Shannon said.

"They did the two things we couldn't do: They got men in scoring position, and they got the big hit, the sac fly to win the game," he added.
