Greylock earns basketball win over New Lebanon

WILLIAMSTOWN -- After a 21-point first quarter, the Mount Greylock boys' basketball team made quick work of visiting New Lebanon (N.Y.) on Thursday night, 65-26.

The undefeated Mounties (3-0) had only one player -- Nathan Majumder -- reach double digits, but they had nine players with a basket.

"It's the second night where we've had some really nice balanced scoring and we've played all 13 guys, which was good," coach Bob Thistle said.

Greylock held New Lebanon to six, five and five points in each of the first three quarter, respectively.

In the early going, the Mounties utilized their pressure defense to fuel their 15-point lead after 8 minutes.

"That caused them to get of their game plan and we turned that into a lot of transition baskets," Thistle said.

Dean Tech 66, Lenox 63

LENOX -- Reynaldo Espada had a game-high 18 points for Dean Tech, none bigger than the 3-point basket he hit at the buzzer to give the visitors a win.

The Millionaires trailed 63-60 with 21.8 seconds left when head coach Scott Sibley called time out. He called a play for Ben Herrick, who drained a trey to tie the game with 3.3 seconds left. The Golden Hawks got the ball to Espada some 10 feet behind the midcourt line, and he banked a long shot home to hand the Millionaires (2-2) the loss.

"We didn't really play our basketball and we just got beat at the buzzer," said Sibley.

Herrick led Lenox with 15 points, while Kris Vahle had 11 and Jared Tuttle scored 10.

HOLYOKE -- The Warriors scored a big victory over defending Western Massachusetts Division III-A champion South Hadley, 6-3 on Wednesday night.

Ryan Ouimet and Andrew Beaudoin combined to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead before the game was 2 minutes old. But three straight South Hadley goals forced them to mount a rally.

It started with Ouimet's tally with 56 seconds left in the second period to tie the game.

Coach Don Disbrow said the goal gave his team a lift, but not as much as the next one.

Jake Beckwith then put Wahconah on top for good with a goal 4:53 into the final period. Nick Montferret scored 24 seconds later while South Hadley tried to get out of its daze. Beaudoin then finished the scoring with an empty-netter.
