Greylock, Wahconah win Super Bowl titles
Berkshire Eagle Staff
Wahconah and Mount Greylock each took home Western Massachusetts Super Bowl titles on Saturday.
The Warriors scored 24 points in the first half against South Hadley before holding on for a 24-21 win in the Division II game at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. Mount Greylock won its third straight sectional crown, 24-0, over Belchertown at Westfield State University.
Ethan Ryan ran for three touchdowns, including two in the fourth quarter for the Mounties. Ryan scored on touchdown runs of three, three and 51 yards and completed his stellar season with 2,060 yards rushing.
The top-seeded Orioles, who shut out St. Joseph's in the Tuesday playoff game, never got much offense going. In fact, the Mountie defense picked quarterback Nick Leduc off three times.
The Mounties now have beaten Belchertown, Lee and Athol in consecutive Super Bowl games. That is, however, five straight wins for the Mounties as they earlier beat Oxford and Shepherd Hill in Western/Central Mass. Super Bowl contests.
