Hadley Overpass construction to resume next week

NORTH ADAMS - Motorists are being urged to avoid the Hadley Overpass next week.

Crews from J.H. Maxymillian will begin the final phase of construction on the bridge on Monday, March 17, with the first week reducing traffic flow to a single lane.

"As indicated late last year, there is one more small section of deck that has to be replaced, Mayor Richard J. Alcombright said in a release. "The first task is to implement the final phase of construction over the truss which requires barriers in the center lane. I am told that it will take 5 to 7 days to install the barrier and during that time, alternating one-way traffic will be necessary for the work day."

Two-way traffic will be maintained on either side of the barrier in the evenings and throughout the remaining weeks of the project.

Alcombright said the state Department of Transportation is committed to having the bridge deck work completed by June.

"Beyond that, only cosmetic work will be needed under the bridge," he said. "As a community, we have waited a very long time for completion and it is right around the corner. I simply ask for continued patience as this project comes to an end."
