Hat trick by Nich Baruch powers Lenox to boys soccer win

LENOX -- Eighth-grader Nick Baruch scored a first-half hat trick to lead Lenox to a win in its home opener, 5-0 over Drury.

"We’re a young team and our young players, including Nick, stepped up big-time tonight," said Lenox co-coach David Pugh. "It was nice to see them play well in front of our home fans."

Baruch connected on all three goals within a 15-minute span of the first half. The Millionaires scored all five goals before halftime.

GREAT BARRINGTON -- Emile Gilkes connected on a pair of unassisted goals as the Spartans shut out Lee.

"We possesed the ball pretty well," said Spartan coach Matt Naventi. "Lee played it a little defensively, but in the second half, we managed to spread the field a little better and we opened things up."

"To be honest, St. Joe came out with more intensity than we did," said Taconic coach Mark Wasnewsky. "But we just wore them down in the second half."

SPRINGFIELD -- The McCann Tech girls’ soccer team finally opened up its season and Hornets battled Renaissance to a 0-0 tie.

Coach Mike Dowling said Renaissance is supposed to be one of the better teams in the league this year, so seeing his team hold them off the board was a positive.

"C.J. Schleich was everywhere," he said of his defender. "The whole defensive line played well."
