"[Perry] settled down and his pitch count dropped," Monument coach Tom Hankey said. "He was letting our defense play and built some confidence from there. He's a competitor."

Ashley Zink's two-run home run on the junior varsity field at Pinegrove Park put the Warriors ahead for keeps. The game was played on the JV field because pregame rains soaked the varsity field.

Wahconah added two runs in the sixth. Emma Parkinson had an RBI single and later scored on a squeze bunt by Marki LaRochelle.

Allie Borowsky, who tossed a four-hitter, struck out eight and walked one, had the tying run on second base with two outs in the top of the seventh, but got Maria Powers to ground to Kayla Kowalczyk at first to end the game.

"We played very well defensively today," Wahconah coach Dustin Belcher said. 'The ball is in play a lot. [Borwosky] trusts her defense and we make the plays."
