POPE FRANCIS 3, TACONIC 2

PITTSFIELD >> In a matchup of two of the top teams in Western Mass. so far this season, Pope Francis eked a victory out over Taconic.

Jake McNeice pitched six innings for the Braves, striking out four and walking none while allowing four hits and one earned run.

Taconic had just played the night before in Troy, N.Y., before a quick turnaround to Saturday's game, but coach Kevin Stannard didn't use that as an excuse.

"We didn't execute," he said. "Mentally, we weren't into the game. I expect the kids will rebound and regain their focus and be ready to go this week."
