PITTSFIELD — A team can't get to the Curry Hicks Cage without qualifying for the Western Massachusetts basketball tournament. After Monday night, the Pittsfield girls can check one item off of their to-do list.

Peyton Steinman scored 22 points as the Generals (10-3) earned their ticket to the Division II tournament with a 57-40 win over Mount Greylock last night.

"Nobody likes an early vacation," said Pittsfield coach Joe Racicot, reached after the win.

The Generals jumped out to a 14-6 lead after one quarter. They pulled away in the second half.

Steinman had eight steals to go with her 22 points, while Bella Aitken had a team-best eight rebounds.

"It's great for the program and it's great for the kids," said Racicot. "It shows they get rewarded for all the work they put in."

Lauren Howard had 13 points for Greylock and Ari Walden added 11.
