High school roundup: Pittsfield softball finishes 8-0 in North Division

PITTSFIELD — The Pittsfield softball team completed an undefeated Berkshire North division season with its 8-1 win over Drury.

After a 1-2-3, first inning, the Generals (18-1, 8-0) scored in each of the next three innings. They busted the game open with a five-run fourth inning. Giuliana Pierce earned the win. She allowed five hits and struck out three. Hayley Tobin had two hits, scored two runs and drove in one. Allie Hunt had three hits, two runs scored and two RBI. Emily Koldys had two hits, one run scored and two RBI.

WILLIAMSTOWN >> Wahconah's Ashley Zink helped the Warriors end a marathon 12-inning game with the go-RBI double in the 12th.

With one out, pinch-hitter Talia Warren reached base with single. After a sacrifice bunt, Zink drove a double into the left-center gap, scoring Warren. Allie Borowsky added an RBI single, scoring Zink. Borowsky earned the win, pitching all 12 innings for the shutout.

Olivia DiNicola led Greylock with three hits. Elena Cerveira had two hits.

"Fantastic game all the way around," Greylock coach June Blake said. "Very proud of my kids. They hung in there and left it all on the field."

PITTSFIELD >> Taconic kept its postseason hopes alive with a win over Lee.

Ashley Keegan struck out 14 and allowed only four hits. Kailey Bell and Aubrey Lazits had three hits each. Janee Walker, Chloe Wood and Taylor Ostrander had two hits each. Jayla Spears had two hits for Lee.

The win moves the Braves to 9-9 overall. They need to beat Lenox today to qualify for the Western Massachusetts tournament.

EASTHAMPTON >> Easthampton hit four straight doubles, setting up the walk-off single from Nikki Lewandowski, giving the Eagles a win over McCann Tech.

The Eagles scored four times in the seventh inning for the comeback win. The loss eliminates the Hornets from Western Mass. tournament contention. Brit Tassone, Alanza Quinones, Julia Esoldi and Meg Goyette each had two hits for McCann.

Baseball

WAHCONAH 6, MOUNT GREYLOCK 3

WILLIAMSTOWN >> Wahconah jumped on Mount Greylock early, scoring five runs in the first two innings, leading to a win over the Mounties. Four Greylock errors led to four unearned runs.

Wahconah's Gage Frazier struggled with control, walking four in three and two-thirds innings, but Patrick Butler pitched three and one-third innings in relief, allowing one run for the win.

Cam Taylor had two hits for the Warriors. Brandon Condon and Jack Milne had two hits each for Greylock.

"Our pitchers gave up two earned runs, but you can't make errors against good teams," Greylock coach Steve Messina said. "We're struggling with that and they took advantage of our mistakes. That's what good teams do."

The Generals had six-run innings in the first and fourth, respectively. Jordan Nassif and Sam Fick each had three hits and a RBI. Matt Newton had two hits and three RBI.

SHEFFIELD >> Mount Everett struggled on defense, allowing Gateway to get a big win.

The Eagles (7-12) held a 7-4 lead heading into the top of the sixth, but five errors led to 12 Gateway runs.

Mount Everett committed 13 errors overall. Anthony Consolini led the offense with two hits and two RBI.

SOUTH HADLEY >> Reilly Parker and Pat Storie led Mount Greylock over South Hadley. The duo combined for 10 goals, and Storie dished out three assists as well. The Mounties led 9-4 at halftime and did not trail at any point of the game.

Cal Filson made 15 saves.

LENOX SWEEPS LEE

LEE >> The Lenox boys defeated Lee 4-1 while the Millionaire girls held off the Wildcats 3-2.

Victoria Vittori (first singles) and the Ella King/Morgan Hayden team (first doubles) each won in three sets for the Lenox girls.

"It was very competitive," Lee girls coach Norma Comalli said. "It was a great match. I felt like it could have gone either way with whoever won the first doubles."

Lenox's girls finish 8-2 in the Berkshire League while Lee is 7-3. For the boys, Lenox is 6-4 in the league while Lee finishes 4-6.
