High school roundup: Pittsfield softball tops Agawam in Western Mass. finals rematch
AGAWAM >> It wasn't quite the same stage, but the Pittsfield softball team got a bit of revenge against Agawam on Monday, as the Generals topped the Brownies 1-0.
The game was a rematch of last year's Western Massachusetts Division I title game, which Agawam won 2-1.
"It definitely feels good [to get the win]," Pittsfield (2-1) coach Greg Marchbanks said. "You want revenge on a team that beat you in the championship."
Emily Koldys tossed a three-hitter in the win, striking out five to get the decision. Allie Hunt drove in the game's lone run in the third, slapping a single that plated Britney Perkett. Hunt finished 2 for 2 with a triple, while also getting on in the first after being hit by a pitch.
Allison Wheeler took the loss, striking out eight while giving up seven hits.

MOUNT ANTHONY (VT.) 6, TACONIC 0
BENNINGTON, VT. >> The Taconic softball team hung with the defending Vermont Division I state champions through four innings, but Mount Anthony put up three runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull out the win.
Mount Anthony's Taylor Dicranian pitched a no-hitter to get the win, although the Patriots committed two errors during the course of the contest.
Taconic falls to 2-2 with the loss.
"It comes down to a couple plays here and there, [Dicranian] pitched well, kept the hitters off balance and sometimes that happens," Taconic coach Kevin Harrington told the Bennington Banner. "The bats were out against Frontier, but that doesn't always translate to the next game."

DALTON >> Wahconah bounced back from a weekend loss with a rout of Commerce.
The Warriors (2-1) pounced for nine runs in the first to take command of the game.
Gage Frazier picked up the win, going 4 2/3 innings before giving way to Ben Schmitt. At the plate, Cam Taylor went 4 for 4 with two doubles and two singles. Matt Schneider went 2 for 3 with a triple, and Shane Sinopoli added a double.
"We had a tough one on Saturday where we really didn't do a lot of hitting," Wahconah coach Rob Cowdrey said. "We focused Sunday on getting our swings down, and they showed up today, for sure."

GREAT BARRINGTON >> The Monument Mountain and Mount Anthony baseball teams played their makeup game from earlier in the season, and the visiting Patriots picked up a 2-1 win.
Monument jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first inning when Graham Herrick scored on an errant throw, only to see the Patriots tie things up in the sixth then grab the lead in the seventh. Mount Anthony scored the winning run with two outs by beating out a throw to first from the infield.
Jared Henry took the start and went 5 1/3 before getting the no decision. He struck out six and gave up three hits. Nate Cormier came on in relief.
At the plate, Joe Aberdale had a pair of doubles for Monument (0-3).
"I was pleased with the effort," Monument coach Tom Hankey said. "We just have to tighten up our defense a little bit more. I was really pleased with Jared's performance on the mound. We did some good things today, we just have to keep getting better."

WESTFIELD >> Ross Omelenchuck pitched a complete game for Taconic (3-0) in its victory over Westfield.
Omelenchuck also doubled and carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning. Also for the Braves, Jack Cooney went 3 for 5 with three RBI, two doubles and two runs and Ryan Abel was 2 for 3 with two RBI and a double.
Westfield scored in the fourth and fifth innings, but it already trailed 7-0 at that point.

CHESHIRE >> The Pittsfield and Hoosac Valley baseball teams were locked in a battle on Monday. Then night crept in.
Tied up at 6-6 in the top of the 11th, the umpires suspended the game due to darkness. There has been no continuation date set for the contest.
MONUMENT MOUNTAIN 13, WAHCONAH 9
DALTON >> The Monument Mountain boys went to Dalton on Monday and emerged with a win over Wahconah.
Wahconah (2-1, 1-1 Berkshire League) took a 5-4 lead into the half, but the Spartans (3-1, 2-0) took a 9-6 lead after three then added four more goals in the fourth to see out the win.
"We lost the ground ball game today," Wahconah coach Zach Sondrini said. "Complete lack of intensity on ground balls and lack of awareness on defense. We lost our cutters and didn't communicate through slides. Jake Parkinson ran right through our defense. We need to change it around for Granby tomorrow at home."
Jake Parkinson finished with six goals and two assists. For Wahconah, Connor Washburn had five goals and two assists.

Pat Storie had five goals and two assists in the win, Sean McCormack added four goals and Reilly Parker had three goals and four assists for Greylock (4-0).
Cal Filson stopped five shots in the win. Mount Anthony was led by Hunter Davis, who had two goals and an assist.

Emma Bartini contributed a hat trick as well, as the Wildcats outscored Pittsfield 8-4 in the second half en route to the win.

Alie Mendel registered a hat trick for the Hurricanes (2-2, 1-2) while Abi Disbrow recorded seven saves.
