SPRINGFIELD >> Taconic ends its three-game losing streak with a commanding win over Pope Francis. The Braves lost their last three games by a combined 55 points, but the Braves played with energy and determination against the winless Cardinals. Taconic had three players score in double figures, led Jasmine Rodriguez's 18 points. Janee Walker and Maddy Quinto had 12 points each.

"It's nice to get a win and get some of our confidence back," Taconic coach Matt Mickle said.

SOUTHWICK >> Southwick used a 14-2 third quarter run to defeat McCann Tech on Friday. Alanza Quinones helped the Hornets keep it close with three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, but they could not complete the rally. McKinley White led Southwick with 14 points.

LENOX >> Lenox's offense struggled to match Hopkins Academy's offensive firepower in a lopsided defeat to the unbeaten Golden Hawks.

The Millionaires' (7-6) slow start put them in a hole they could not climb out of. Hopkins John Earle and Sam'i Roe led the way scoring 21 and 20 points, respectively. Kevin Coakley led Lenox with 13 points.

"The 21 points in the second quarter hurt and we came out kind of slow," Lenox coach Scott Sibley said. "We didn't do a good job closing out in the zone and they took advantage of it."

CHESHIRE >>Hoosac Valley used its high-energy defense to defeat Mount Greylock. Greylock managed just 10 points in the second half. Hoosac (8-5) turned it defense to offense, extending its lead every quarter. The Hurricanes' defense has been light out during its three-game winning streak, allowing an average of 31 points per game. Jameson Coughlan led the 'Canes with 12 points. Avery Hall and Dahndray Sistrunk had 11 points each. "We've had a lot of energy [on defense]," Hoosac coach Bill Robinson said. "We've had terrific energy all week long. Really proud of how they've been playing. They're playing their best ball of the year."

ENFIELD, CONN. >> After playing to a 1-1 first period, Tri-Town scored five goals in the second period to defeat Taconic.

Tri-Town's Tommy Burgess scored three of his four goals in the second period. Kevin Quinto had a hat trick for Taconic.

High School Wrestling

MONUMENT MOUNTAIN WINS ONCE

WAYLAND >> The Monument Mountain wrestling team finished 1-2 in its three dual meets at the Wayland Quads.

The Spartans defeated Quabbin, 51-21, while falling to Somerset Berkley by a score of 45-16 and Wayland, 39-18.

Max Buffoni (106 pounds) and Bart Christiano (195) went undefeated with 3-0 records. Nate Cormier was 2-1, only losing a tight 5-3 match to Waylands Brendan Kiernan.

"It was a good day for us, getting to see some of the top competition at the state level," Monument Mountain coach Simon Jones said in an email. "Most of our guys wrestled hard, and we learned some lessons and things we need to work on as we move forward."

WRESTLING

WILLIAMSTOWN >> Taconic finished second out of 23 teams at the Mountie Invite. Mount Greylock placed fifth and Mount Everett finished 14th.

Taconic had several top three finishers, as Zabion Powell (132 pounds), Isiah Williams (152) and Dalton Peck (heavyweight) earned second-place finishes. Austin Hougtaling finished in third place at 182.

Mount Everett's Zach Lupiani took first place at 98 pounds. Anthony Lupiani finished second at 106 pounds.

Alex Griffis was Greylock's lone champion at 195 pounds. Devin Pelletier finished in second place at 160. Jack Rosier (98) and Adam Cohen (113) earned third-place finishes.
