High School Roundup: Taconic girls win first of the season, beat Ludlow in basketball

LUDLOW — Unwrapping gifts on Christmas will be that much more pleasant for the Taconic girls basketball team. That's because the Braves won their first game of the season Wednesday night.

Maddy Quinto and Janee Walker combined to score 25 points and the Taconic duo almost outscored the entire Ludlow team, as the Braves got away with a 40-33 road victory.

"Our girls played extremely hard," said Taconic coach Matt Mickle. "We pushed the tempo and our girls responded."

The Braves actually were behind at the end of each of the first three quarters, but Taconic's defense rose up and held the Lions to five points in the fourth quarter, outscoring the home team 14-5.

"We made some shots down the stretch. We made our free throws when they fouled us."

Quinto had a game-high 13 points and Walker added 12. Morgan Foye had 11 to lead Ludlow.
