High school soccer roundup: Mount Everett girls off to 4-0 start

SHEFFIELD — Four games into the 2016 season, the Mount Everett girls soccer team is perfect.

Madeline VonRuden scored a goal and added an assist as the Eagles beat Lee 3-0 Monday afternoon, ending an eight-game losing streak against the Wildcats.

"One of [the Everett players] came off said 'We broke the curse,' " Mount Everett coach Jess Murtagh said.

"It was definitely a goal of ours for a very long time," the coach said of beating Lee. "The girls were really pumped up and ready to go."

VonRuden gave the Eagles (4-0, 2-0 Berkshire South) the only goal they needed when she scored off a Lauren Edwards assist in the 21st minute. Everett added two more goals in the second half.

Madison Ullrich had three saves to record the clean sheet. Lee is 0-3, 0-3.

CHESHIRE >> Carah Cote scored twice, including the game-winner in the 57th minute, for Hoosac Valley.

Madison Graves also scored for Hoosac (1-1, 1-1 Berkshire North) while Olivia Bresett and Ellie Field registered assists. Kailynne Frederick had eight saves.

"This was a fun league game. Both teams battled hard," Hoosac coach Kathy Budaj wrote in an email. "Carah had some great shots on net and it was nice to see her hard work pay off."

For Mount Greylock (1-2, 0-2), Madison Ross and Caroline Flynn scored. Rachel Voller recorded 14 saves.

LENOX >> This early-season battle of the Southern Division's undefeated teams went to the Millionaires, thanks to three second-half goals.

"We were definitely getting chances in the first half," Lenox coach Kyle Zinchuk said. "We just weren't putting them in."

Lenox (3-0, 2-0 Berkshire South) led 1-0 at halftime thanks to a goal by Tova Brown in the 13th minute. The Millionaires scored three times in the second half, including netting a penalty kick goal by Jaclynn Hathaway in the 60th minute.

Taconic (2-1, 2-1) was held scoreless as Shannon Meisberger made four saves for the shutout.
