High school soccer roundup: Taconic boys pick up 1-0 win over Putnam

SPRINGFIELD — Visiting Taconic walked out of Putnam with a 1-0 win after Ryan Abel scored the winning goal in the 73rd minute.

Abel capitalized on a free kick from Nick Donahue. Donahue, who was roughly 50 yards out according to coach Mark Wasnewsky, lofted a ball into the box and Abel was able to get his head on it and beat the Putnam keeper.

With the win, Taconic improved to 2-4-0 on the year.

DRURY 5, MOHAWK 1

SHELBURNE FALLS >> Drury scored four goals in the first half to waltz to a win over Mohawk on Wednesday.

Five different Drury players scored in the win, with Connor Clark scoring the first and Reece Racette scoring the eventual game-winner in the 14th minute.

In goal, Brian Christian had five saves in the win. Drury is now 6-0-1 on the year.

WILLIAMSTOWN >> Lauren Daury's goal in the 77th minute salvaged a tie for Pittsfield against Mount Greylock.

The Mounties (1-5-1, 0-3-1 Berkshire North) took the lead nine minutes earlier on an own goal from the Generals (2-3-1, 0-1-1). Lauren Howard's volley into the box went off a defender's head and into the back of the net.

"We've been struggling to score goals," Mount Greylock coach Tom Ostheimer said. "We had our opportunities and hopefully this is something we can build on as we continue our season."

Olivia Bresett and Ellie Field put the Hurricanes (3-1) up 2-0 at halftime.

Kristen Borelli cut the lead in half in the 60th minute for Taconic (2-4) before Claudia Bresett's goal closed the scoring.
