High school sports roundup: Lee golf continues strong start


LEE — Six matches into the regular season, Lee remains undefeated in golf.

Hunter Roosa and Sean McLaughlin each shot 6-over-par 41 at Greenock Country Club, as the Wildcats (6-0, 3-0 Berkshire South) earned a 168-195 win over Monument Mountain (2-4, 1-2) Monday afternoon. It's the first time in his varsity career that McLaughlin even shared medalist honors.

"It clicked with [McLaughlin] today," Lee coach Matt Carlino said. "I was so happy. He was hitting a lot of good shots."

All four of Lee's scoring golfers bested their Monument counterparts. They all shot lower than the Spartans' Max Joyner, who had a 45.


Monument Mountain (195) — Lexi Shumsky 49, Max Joyner 45, Matthew Iemolini 50, Dylan Tinker 55, Jackson Cunningham 66, Graham Herrick 51.

Birdies: Joyner (No. 4).

Lee (168) — Thomas Fraser 43, Hunter Roosa 41, Bryce Whalen 43, Colin Finnegan 43, Sean McLaughlin 41, Camden Redstone 48.

Birdies: Finnegan (No. 2, 7), McLaughlin (No. 5).


DALTON >> At Wahconah Country Club, Kevin Quinto shot a 3-over 39 on a soggy afternoon as Pittsfield (3-2, 2-1 Berkshire North) handed Wahconah (2-2, 2-1) its first divisional loss of the season.

"The course played tough from the rain the night before," Wahconah coach Pete Terpak wrote in an email. "As a team we got off to a rough start and could never gain enough traction to nail down a victory.


Pittsfield (176) — Kevin Quinto 39, Justin Martin 41, Ricky Berrian 47, Jake Driscoll 49, Tino Burns 57, Alex Parsons 61.

Wahconah (178) — Jon Dos Santos 40, Nate Dos Santos 44, Vinnie Orlandi 46, Colette Basiliere 48, Sam Clayton 49, Noah Bracci 56.

WILLIAMSTOWN >> At Waubeeka Golf Links, three of Mount Greylock's scoring golfers bested St. Joe's top scorer as the Mounties (4-2) beat the Crusaders (1-6).

Kyle Alvarez was medalist with a one-over-par 37 on the Waubeeka front nine, while Ben Gillooly shot a 39. Mike Gingras led St. Joe with a 48.


St. Joseph (261) — Mike Gingras 48, Jake Felix 62, Connor Thurston 79, Dakota Brazee 72.

Mount Greylock (169) — Ben Gillooly 39, Kyle Alvarez 37, Hunter Sarkis 45, Bennett Zimmerman 48.

Birdies: Gillooly (No. 8), Alvarez (No. 6).



LEE >> The host Wildcats (5-1) needed only three sets to beat Taconic (1-3). The scores were 25-13, 25-12, 25-13.

Kendra Williams had a match-best 25 assists for the Wildcats, also registering four kills and four aces.

"Our offense is really starting to click as of late," said Lee coach John Warner. "[Taconic is] a scrappy team. Give them a few matches and they're going to surprise some teams."

Shenna Tyer had nine kills, four assists and three aces for Lee, while 6-foot sophomore Bailey Thomas had 11 kills and three blocks for the Wildcats.

Delaney Ivas had four digs and an ace for Taconic, and Lilly Garrity had three kills and an ace.


LENOX >> The Millionaires (4-1, 3-0 Berkshire South) had 19 service aces in a three-set win over St. Joseph (0-4, 0-2). The scores were 25-7, 25-12, 25-10.

"For us, it was mostly a serving game," said Lenox coach Bessena Cabe. "St. Joe had some good digs."

Anna Lynch had 10 aces and a dig to lead Lenox. Kristin Miller had four aces and four assists, while Morgan Hayden had five aces and three kills. Brianna Hazl chipped in with three kills and a block.

For St. Joe, Corinna Carroll had six digs and a kill, while Emily Hamilton had four digs and two kills.


WILLIAMSTOWN >> Dagny Albano had a big night for Mount Greylock, as the Mounties swept the Eagles. The scores were 25-8, 25-14, 26-24.

Albano had a match-high 15 assists for the Mounties (5-1), to go with four aces and two kills. Caroline Hadley had four kills, Taylor Hoffstedt had five kills while Gabby Alvarez had four assists.

Everett (0-4) was paced by Ashley Atwood's five aces. Kayla Krom had three kills, while Chandler DeGrenier had two assists and Maria DeManlay had two aces.


PITTSFIELD >> The Generals continued their strong start to the season with a fifth consecutive victory.

Brennah Brickle had 13 kills, Aimee Boulias contributed seven digs, four kills and three aces and Mya Manson registered 11 assists for the Generals (5-0, 2-0 Berkshire North).

"I think we're doing pretty well," Pittsfield coach Brian Lawton said. "We definitely have some things to work on. But we're passing pretty well as a team, our offense is working pretty well."

Mount Anthony is 0-4, 0-3.


DALTON >> The Warriors outlasted the Spartans 25-15, 25-19, 25-18.

Jess Warren had seven digs and two aces for Wahconah (3-2) while Emma Parkington registered eight digs, eight kills and five aces. Lucy Sears contributed 12 assists and an ace.

For Monument (2-2), Alyssa Mack recorded five kills, four aces and four digs while Daina Henry had three kills, two digs and two aces. Alexa Troiano added five digs, four kills and two aces.

"I'm happy with the win," Wahconah coach Dave Lussier said. "We have a busy week. Our offense came together tonight and our serving was much better than our last match."
