PITTSFIELD -- Sally Rice of Hinsdale won a new car through the Berkshire United Way’s 2013 Campaign Drive.

Rice, who works for Crane in Dalton, received the 2014 Nissan Versa donated by the Johnson Dealerships of Pittsfield and Greylock Federal Credit Union.

The drawing took place Wednesday at the Berkshire Chamber of Commerce’s monthly Chamber Nite at Greylock Federal’s headquarters on West Street.

Rice, who is also an artist, wasn’t present for the drawing. But Berkshire United Way President and CEO Kristine Hazzard said Rice was shocked when notified she had won.

"We caught her completely off-guard," Hazzard said.

The Eagle has a message in for Rice.

Her name was picked from the among the 7,000 people who so far have made donations to the Berkshire United Way’s 2013 Campaign Drive, which ends in June. The Berkshire United Way is hoping to raise $2.8 million through this campaign. It has raised $1.4 million so far, according to BUW spokesman Jonah Sykes.

Berkshire Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Michael Supranowicz drew the winning entry.

Rice has the option of accepting the car or receiving $10,000, according to Hazzard.
