Holyoke man jailed for robbery at Oak N' Spruce

GREAT BARRINGTON >> A 26-year-old Holyoke man was jailed on Thursday after being found guilty of robbing a couple at the Oak N' Spruce Resort.

Luis Medina was sentenced to 18 days in the Berkshire County Jail and House of Correction by Judge Paul Vrabel after he was found guilty of on count each of larceny over $250 and breaking and entering in the daytime.

According to Officer Adrian Kohlenberger of the Lee Police Department, he was called to Oak N' Spruce on July 25 of this year to respond to a report of a robbery.

A couple visiting from Europe reported that they had left their condo for the day to sightsee. When they returned, they reported, more than $2,000 was missing from the woman's purse.

The assistant manager told Kohlenberger that she suspected Medina, who was working as part of a local cleaning crew. Medina had just completed cleaning that portion of the resort.

Medina, who was still on the premises, was brought into the assistant manager's office. When Kohlenberger asked Medina if he had cleaned the room, he denied it. But Kohlenberger produced records showing that Medina and another employee had used a keycard to enter the room.

Medina then said he recalled visiting the room, but did not clean it. Kohlenberger placed him under arrest. Later, a police check revealed Medina had several outstanding warrants.

Median was later arraigned and held without bail until Thursday's hearing.
