Holyoke: Soldiers’ Home to host open house, flu/pneumonia clinics

Monday October 8, 2012

The Soldiers’ Home at 110 Cherry St. invites all Massachusetts veterans to attend an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10. A ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. commemorating 60 years of service to veterans.

The open house will give veterans and their families an opportunity to receive information about the Solders’ Home and other agencies concerning health-related matters. Refreshments will be served.

Veterans who have not signed up for the Soldiers’ Home Outpatient Services will be able to bring their separation papers (Form DD 214) and meet with representatives of the Admitting and Eligibility Department and enroll for services at the Home, which now includes dental care.

In addition, the Soldiers’ Home will host a two-day flu and pneumonia vaccine clinic for veterans and their spouses from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesdays, Oct. 10 and 24.

Those who do not have Medicare Part B (primary coverage) or health-care insurance coverage will be required to pay $30 for the flu shot and $75 for the pneumonia shot, cash or check only.

Check with insurance carriers for eligibility; some carriers do not pay for the vaccines. Insurance cards must be presented at the clinic.
