Housatonic man in federal custody on Calif. drug warrant

GREAT BARRINGTON -- A Housatonic man is in federal custody after being arrested on a warrant from California on drug charges.

Al Quoc Tran, 29, of Deer Trail Road, was arrested by the police and FBI last week at a local Stockbridge Road business as a fugitive from justice from California, according to Police Chief William R. Walsh, Jr.

Tran was indicted in December on a charge of possession with intent to distribute ecstasy. A warrant was issued for his arrest after he failed to appear in court.

Police and agents for the FBI located Tran in the Berkshires and took him into custody. He had previously lived in Pittsfield.

He was transported to the Franklin County House of Correction in Greenfield, which incarcerates federal fugitives.

Tran is scheduled to appear in court later this week, police said.
