GREAT BARRINGTON -- A Housatonic woman was arrested for driving under the influence after wrecking her car Friday night, police said.

Julia Walker, 50, was heading east on Crissey Road when she crashed into a tree, then hit nearby the Waterware building and then a utility pole before coming to a complete stop, according to Officer Timothy Ullrich .

Ullrich said that call came in around 8:30 p.m., after someone nearby heard the noise. When police arrived at the scene, Walker was not with her wrecked 2005 Chevy Equinox.

She somehow returned to her Housatonic home after the accident, Ullrich said. From her home, she called the police saying she was in an accident because she popped her tire, a dispatcher said.

Walker told police on the phone that she was walking back to her vehicle because her dog was still in it. There was no dog in the vehicle, according to the dispatcher.

Police found Walker walking alongside the road and arrested her for operating a vehicle under the influence, Ullrich said. She was taken to Great Barrington Police Department.
