House fire on West Street in Pittsfield injures one
PITTSFIELD — One man was injured on Wednesday night following a house fire on West Street not far from Berkshire Community College.
Around 8:30 p.m., city firefighters responded to the residence directly across from Mountain View Drive where they found ablaze the front of the two-and-half story wooden structure, according to Pittsfield Fire Chief Robert Czerwinski.
"When they arrived they found one male victim located outside," he said. "He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries."
The unidentified victim's condition at Berkshire Medical Center was unknown late Wednesday night.
Czerwinski praised the firefighters for quickly knocking down the flames that scorched the entire first floor and part of the second story.
City fire investigators were on the scene late into the night trying to determine what sparked the fire.
