Housing cluster is third development proposed for Churchill Street in Pittsfield

PITTSFIELD >> A third development project has been proposed for the Churchill Street area near Onota Lake, following two solar generating arrays already involved in the permitting process.

The city Community Development Office has received a proposed three-lot residential cluster housing plan on about 14 acres off 399 Churchill St. A request for a special permit is scheduled to go before the Community Development Board on Tuesday.

According to the housing plan, three lots, ranging in size from 2 to 9 acres, will be created along a common driveway and adjacent an open common area.

AITF Reality Trust is proposing the development, which was designed by SK Design Group Inc.

Also this year, a 1.82-megawatt solar generating facility has been proposed for a 61-acre parcel off Churchill Street south of the Dan Casey causeway over Onota Lake.

That proposal received a special permit in June from the Zoning Board of Appeals, but a group of area residents — living between 449 and 503 Churchill St. — is challenging the permit in Massachusetts Land Court.

Another solar array recently was proposed on Churchill Street near the Lanesborough line. The plan calls for solar panel arrays on five large lots, each with a capacity to produce 449 kilowatts of power — or about 2.25 megawatts in total.

The facility will require a site plan review from the Community Development Board, a special permit from the ZBA and a review by the Conservation Commission.
