H.S. football, volleyball, golf roundup: Monument Mountain falls in close game
EASTHAMPTON >> Monument Mountain came close to notching its first victory of the season, but it wasn't meant to be in a 16-14 loss to Easthampton.
The Spartans (0-5, 0-2 Intercounty South) trailed 16-0 after the first quarter, but started chipping away with a score in the second quarter to make it 16-6 at halftime.
Out of halftime, Monument added another score to make it 16-14. In the fourth quarter, the Spartans came close to scoring the go-ahead touchdown, but penalties negated the score and the Eagles stood tall from there.
Monument will look to get its first win next Friday with a home game against Ludlow.
CHICOPEE 32, PITTSFIELD 0
CHICOPEE >> The visiting Generals were shut out by the Colts on Friday night.
Chicopee led 20-0 at halftime, then added two more touchdowns over the last two quarters to seal the win.
With the loss, the Generals fall to 3-2 and are now on a two-game losing streak. Pittsfield travels to South Hadley on Friday for its next game.
PITTSFIELD 3, TACONIC 2
PITTSFIELD >> Pittsfield is headed to Western Mass. after its five-set win over Taconic. The set scores were 25-20, 21-25, 25-12, 24-26, 15-9.
Kamea Quetti had 12 kills for the Generals (10-2) while Danielle LaBlanc added 14 aces and six kills. Nicole LaPierre contributed eight kills and five digs for PHS while Riley Nichols had 30 assists and four aces.
For the Braves (4-7), Jasmine Rodriguez registered six kills, five aces and two digs while Maddie Quinto added eight kills. Also, Rosalyn Vega recorded four aces, four kills and a block.
WAHCONAH 3, GREENFIELD 0
GREENFIELD >> Jess Warren had 11 digs and four aces to help Wahconah qualify for the Western Mass. tournament. The set scores were 25-15, 25-8, 25-21.
Michaela DeFoe contributed five kills and two blocks for the Warriors (10-3).
Lucy Sears had 12 assists and four kills for Wahconah.
ST. JOSEPH 3, NEW LEBANON 0
NEW LEBANON, N.Y. >> Emily Hamilton recorded 10 kills, four digs and two aces for St. Joseph in its win over New Lebanon. The scores were 25-15, 25-22, 25-20.
It's the first win of the year for the Crusaders (1-8).
Rebekah Baker had five aces and three digs for St. Joe while Chaze Filippi added three aces and three digs.
HOUSATONIC VALLEY 3, MOUNT EVERETT 0
SHEFFIELD >> Housatonic Valley defeated Mount Everett 25-21, 27-25, 25-18.
Chandler DeGrenier had four assists and two kills for the Eagles (2-9) while Allisa Rathbun recorded five aces and two kills. Also for Mount Everett, Kayla Krom registered four kills, one ace and one block while Emma Mitchell added three kills and one assist.
For Housatonic Valley, Marge Riccardelli had seven kills, two aces and three digs while Trisha Worthington had three kills and three blocks.
TACONIC 165, LEE 172
LEE >> Brett Murphy carded a 40 for Taconic in its win over Lee at Greenock Country Club.
Mike Kays and Ross Omelenchuck each shot 41 for the Braves (9-4).
For Lee (9-2), Thomas Fraser fired a 41.

STATE VOCATIONAL TOURNAMENT
McCann Tech finished second in the state vocational tournament behind Blue Hills.
Cole Kratz individually tied for second with a 79 while Brad Tatro finished fifth with an 81 for the Hornets. Brian Boudreau finished seventh with an 86 for McCann Tech while Ryan Baran shot a 97 to give the team a four-score total of 343. Jake Tower shot 102 for the Hornets.
